Winnetka Heights is one of the oldest and largest historical districts in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, bounded on the north by Davis Street, on the south by twelfth Street , Willomet Avenue on the east and Rosemont Avenue to the west. Originally established as a community in 1910, Winnetka Heights consists mainly of early twentieth century wooden-frame homes, but in recent years we have seen a rise in the number of tear-downs, rebuilds and custom contemporary homes - making it one of the most exciting architectural areas in Dallas to date.
Originally a booming, popular area of Dallas, Winnetka Heights, along with the rest of the Oak Cliff area suffered from massive poverty and downfall during the 1980s and on for a period of two decades. Large, stately homes and mansions were subdivided into small apartments, and city services were few and far between. More recently however, a growing interest in urban living began a vast restoration process and Winnetka Heights is now both our favorite historic district in Dallas, and a culturally diverse and vibrant neighborhood.
Located just two miles from downtown Dallas near the popular foodie mecca of the Bishop Arts district, Winnetka Heights is the second-largest historic neighborhood in Dallas and one of the most diverse in the state.
Nowadays if you take a walk down its beautiful streets lined with mature trees, carefully restored historic homes and large front porches, you are reminded of the way Dallas was a century ago.
