Townhome living in Dallas
Townhouses offer multi-level living with a private entrance, attached garage and often a rooftop deck or small yard, without the exterior maintenance of a detached home or the elevator and amenity fees of a high-rise. In Dallas they range from 1990s brick rowhouses to contemporary three- and four-story designs with roof terraces.
Popular townhouse neighborhoods
Uptown, Oak Lawn, the State-Thomas district, Knox-Henderson and the Design District hold the densest concentration of townhomes close to Downtown. Lakewood, the M Streets and Lower Greenville offer townhomes near White Rock Lake and established retail. North Dallas, Preston Hollow's edges and the Galleria area add larger floor plans and newer construction. Suburban townhome communities are also common in Plano, Frisco and McKinney.
Fee simple vs. condominium townhomes
In Dallas, many townhouses are legally condominiums even though they look like rowhouses. The distinction affects financing, insurance, what the HOA maintains and how the lot is conveyed. We confirm the legal form from the plat and declaration before you make an offer, and explain how HOA dues, party-wall agreements and shared-driveway easements work for the specific property.
