Renting a townhome or townhouse in Uptown Dallas is the way to go in my opinion, if your pockets are deep enough. You get all the benefits of a house with a lot of space, often a small yard or an awesome rooftop deck, a private garage, and no-one living above or below you. Construction quality on townhomes is great as a lot of them are newer, so noise levels are reduced, as is what could be an astronomical electric bill. There is one very important thing to watch out for though. Make sure that the townhouse has a split-zone A/C system - this means you will often have one thermostat in the living area, and one on the top floor, so one runs during the day and one at night. Without this if you try and cool three floors of living space in Dallas during the summer, you may as well buy the place!
