More about The Colony

The Colony didn't exist until 1969, when most of the land around State Highway 121 and Farm to Market Road 423 was bought up by developers, with the goal of creating an ideal city. This "dream city" was to consist primarily of single-family homes.

In 1987, The Colony and neighboring Eastvale merged. Particularly over the last 15 or so years, the Colony has undergone significant growth. Its population has expanded from about 26,000 in 2000 to over 40,000 residents today.

The Colony is located just 11 miles from the University of Texas at Dallas, and 24 miles north of Dallas itself. The suburb is conveniently situated along Texas State Highway 121, which connects to nearby Plano, where many major companies have their headquarters.

The Colony is an ideal place to raise a family, with 16,843 acres of parks and open land, as well as excellent recreational facilities at beautiful Lewisville Lake, which stretches along the city's eastern shoreline.
