More about McKinney

McKinney is one of the oldest towns in north Texas, dating to 1846. For well over a century, it served as the principal commercial center for Collin county.

Today McKinney falls within the boundaries of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and has a population of about 150,000 people. It includes plenty of open, green space, along with attractive shopping and entertainment centers, and thriving local businesses.

McKinney is also home to the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, which spans 289 acres and includes miles of hiking trails, 50 acres of wetlands, an indigenous garden, a butterfly garden, and various indoor and outdoor exhibits.

McKinney includes a number of good schools, from pre-kindergarten facilities through to grade 12. Most schools in the area fall under the McKinney Independent School District (ISD), although some are in the Frisco ISD. Also in McKinney is the Central Park Campus of Collin College.
